Compassion First

There is no question that the campaign generating the most interest and excitement today is the CompassionFirst Campaign. We find that appropriate because it’s so consistent with God’s Word.

Clearly, the mission of the church is embodied in the CF approach. “Mission” means to send and the sending includes two distinct parts; 1] evangelism; making disciples; planting churches, etc., and 2] doing works of mercy and compassion.

CF embraces the fact that the choice is not “either/or,” but “both/and,” rolling specific expressions of compassion into a Ministry Advancement Initiative that also includes needed capital elements.

We have churches whose capital/compassion splits range from 50/50 to 90/10. The general rule of thumb is the higher the percentage of giving committed to CF, the greater the resonance and excitement  among those in the church.

Capital

The starting point for any Kardia Capital Campaign includes losing the stigma linked to the experience! The biblical reality is that any example of building projects, calls to commitment, talks about giving, money and possessions were linked to faith, excitement, creativity, and amazing movements of God. As the author of creative design, He calls us today, just as then, to be about His business.

Campaigns can be invigorating and can help the church take exponential steps toward her vision. It’s rare today to find a church that is not “campaign experienced.” However, in many cases that experience could best be described as “underwhelming.” Whether it’s less-than-expected results, or poorly conceived plans or execution, the end result may have been a disappointment.

We understand your concerns; they are valid. In short, there are exciting options to consider; options that allow you to press on in moving the ministry’s “vision ball” down the field, while at the same time, leading with wisdom.

One Fund

Today, many churches are opting for a OneFund Campaign approach over the more traditional Capital Campaign. How is the OneFund different and most importantly, why would leaders choose to move in that direction?

  • Historically, Capital Campaigns have been approached as an “add-on;” i.e., giving over and above regular giving, usually for three years, to fund specific capital projects. The focus was usually all about getting the projects funded and completed within a defined timeframe.
  • The OneFund approach is ideal in churches when leaders want to both fund a capital initiative[s] and grow the existing culture of generosity in the church without communicating an “over and above” initiative. Capital projects and funding needs are rolled together with what had been known as “General Fund,” into a combined OneFund. Both options have proven effectiveness and results. The driver for determining which is best for your church lies in identifying the church’s history, campaign experience, projects, goals, project timeline, culture, and desire to embrace generosity as an element of the church’s spiritual formation process.
